Diwatang Byaning

I just want to know if it’s possible for people to fall in love with someone you haven’t met but through simple online IMs, and phone conversations. Mag-iisang taon na kaming wala ng ex-boyfriend ko. We are still good friends and we exchange emails now and then. I can’t say that I’m totally over him but the break up was kinda mutual so I guess we are both moving on. I’m uncertain if I’m ready to fall in love again yet there is a prodding, a soft voice talking.

I’ve heard na marami palang mga bloggers na nag-kakainlaban. Nakita ko nga sa isang post somewhere na it’s possible daw na ma-develop ang isang relationship virtually. Pero kahit na online pa or whatever, the chain of love remains the same. It’s the usual “Mahal kita, mahal mo siya, mahal niya ay iba…”

Some people get lucky. They can ignore time zones and over a hundred-thousand-mile differences to express their love for each other. It is interesting to note that human beings are meant to be with someone. Whether the desire is pure companionship or sexual, humans long for the human connection, the human touch.

The question is this, “Are we soooo longing for that connection that we dream up wonderful things out of impossible situations?” We already know that the chances of feeling the same thing over virtual mediums is totally different when you meet someone in person. But why do we do it?

I, for one can’t answer it. I’ve been through that road before… - many times before - I have given up on it. I have always been disappointed in the end. Whether the unexpected reaction when we meet in person comes from my end or from theirs, I already know that the end of the story will not be the fantasy that I cooked up in my head.

More power to those who - with a lot of luck and perseverance - managed to break the obstacles between them and prove to one another that yes, it is possible.

I am falling for you. I don’t know you and you don’t even know me. But even for a moment, a very brief moment - I probably believed that there is a chance we can be together.

Until I can manage to let my brain overcome my heart, you will remain anonymous. I will blog about you from time to time with a faint hope that you know I’m talking about you.
